challenging inequality : promoting wellbeing
Exciting news!
Our new report 'Improving Care for Refugees and Asylum Seekers - The Experiences of Midwives' is now
available here.
Maternity Action received funding from Comic Relief to develop and pilot a training programme
for midwives to improve maternity care for refugees and asylum seekers. The training programme was successfully trialled
at four pilot sites in early 2011, then rolled-out nationally. In early 2012, a series of open courses were held in
London.
We have now confirmed the dates for our next set of open courses. Click here for full details.
We are working with maternity services
across the UK to deliver courses and have a number of courses lined up. We are still looking for maternity services
to host courses, so please contact us if your service is interested, and we can provide further details.
Our
'Improving Care for Refugees and Asylum Seekers' courses are accredited by the Royal College of
Midwives and count as 5.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, for midwives.

The training consists
of a one-day introductory course aimed at all midwives, and a one-day advanced course for midwives with a special interest
in working with refugees and asylum seekers. Additional resources to support midwives working with
refugees and asylum seekers have been developed and are available on this dedicated website.
